Ricky Ponting is a brilliant Australian international cricketer. He is a right-hand batsman and right-hand medium bowler.
He is from the hometown Launceston, Tasmania, Australia. He was the captain for Australia during “Golden Era” in which the Australian team won two world cups in 2003 and 2007.

Ponting started his career in cricket by playing his first match in the team Tasmanian in November 1992. He played his first ODI match against South Africa at the age of 20. Later he played the first test match against Sri Lanka, in which he scored 96 runs like a young batsman.
Ponting lost his selection in many of the matches during 1999, due to lack of form. Later in 2002, he became the captain for the Australia team. He has played more than 150 test matches and 370 ODI matches. He crossed 13,000 runs in the test matches and one of the leading top scorers in test matches.
Ricky Ponting began his career as a cricketer by playing in the club matches. He was selected in the Tasmania team and has played many games. At the age 18, Ponting scored his first century in the domestic game breaking the record of Boon. In the end, he has scored 781 runs with the average 48.81.
Later, Ricky Ponting played a few Australian academy matches. Then he selected for the Academy squad playing against India.
Ponting has earned many good points in domestic matches and selected for selected for the Internationals. In his first series against South Africa, he scored one run from six balls as Australia already reached the score required. In his third match against Australia, he scored a half-century(62 runs) from 92 deliveries. In the end, Ponting scored 80 runs with an average of 71.42.
Few matches in the year 1995, he didn’t perform well. Ponting got the duck out in the second ball and scored only 19 runs in next game, though the Australia team won the series by 2-1.
Later, he focused on batting and developed good skills. Next, in a match with Sri Lanka, he scored 96 runs with the partnership of 121 runs with Stuart Law pay the way for winning the innings. He continued his batting skills all over the upcoming matches.
In 1999, in a test match of Australia vs Sri Lanka Ponting showed his performance by scoring 96 and 51 runs by winning the series.
In a test against Pakistan, Ponting started the series dull. But at the end of the game, he scored 197 runs in the third test which helpful in winning the series by 3-0. Also, this scoring is effective in becoming a leading run scorer.
As a Captain
Although the team was performing well in the matches but failed to qualify for the triangular tournament. This lead to a change in captaincy from Steve Waugh to Ricky Ponting. Then being a captain, he scored 100 runs against South Africa.
Also, he maintained a good batting score of 308 runs with an average of 77.25 as captain of the first series.
He proceeded all the matches as a skillful captain, who gave success in 2002 -2003 ODI series and in finals against England.
Later he continued as captain for World cup in 2003 and 2007. In 2003 World Cup of Australia against India, Ponting scored 140 runs from 121 balls included 8 sixes and 4 fours. This playing helped to beat India and supported in winning the World Cup.
Ricky Ponting advanced his batting styles in later games. Also, he formed a good team for winning the events quickly.
Later in 2007 World Cup of Australia against Sri Lanka, the entire team has shown an excellent play. Adam Gilchrist started the final match very well, and partnership of Ricky Ponting improved in the scoring of 281 runs.
Excellent batting, fielding, bowling and also the captaincy of Ricky Ponting is helpful in winning the World Cup for the second time in 2007.
Ponting announced his retirement in Twenty20 in 7th September 2009. Later, he announced his retirement in the test match by 29 November 2012.
After the retirement, Ricky Ponting appointed as coach in IPL for Mumbai Indians from 2014 to 2016 and later as a new coach for Delhi Daredevils in 2018.
