AB de Villiers is a former international South African cricketer. He is a right-handed batsman, wicketkeeper and right-arm bowler.
AB de Villiers is from the hometown Warmbad, Transvaal Province, South Africa. He is widely known for his excellent batting skill.
Early to International Career
AB de Villiers started playing cricket at the young age and played his first game in under-19 South African team.
In 2004, he played th first debut test match against England and scored a brilliant half-century helping the victory.
AB de Villiers continued his batting skills and played the games in a significant manner, although he had up and downs in few games, but back to the form in 2005.
Later in a match against the Indian team, he scored 96 runs from just 98 balls which a earned a rightful place in the national team.
Not only as an excellent batsman, but AB de Villiers performed well as a top fielder and excellent wicketkeeper.
Although AB de Villiers performed dull at the starting of the World cup games, in next matches he extended his solid play. After a match against West Indies, he scored the first maiden ODI century of 146 runs from 130 deliveries.
On 2008, AB de Villiers got all attention by scoring a double century against India. He continued his batting skills in many matches against England, Zimbabwe, and Pakistan.
In a test of South Africa versus England, the play of AB de Villiers helped in winning the game by scoring 174 runs in first and 97 runs in the second match.
Later, in a test series against Australia, AB de Villiers scored 104 runs from 185 balls in the first test, 163 runs in the third test and awarded as the man of the series.
In subsequent, he received the ODI player of the year in 2010.
Later in 2011, AB de Villiers is chosen as the captain for limited over match. Also, he scored two centuries in consecutive games which is very notable in world cup matches.
In 2015 world cup matches, AB de Villiers performed well by creating a record of second highest total runs in World cup history. Also, he had the record of fastest 50, 100, and 150 in ODI.
AB de Villiers has played entirely 114 test matches and 228 ODI matches with an entire score of 18,342. His best score in Test game is 278 runs and 176 runs in ODI.
Captaincy and Retirement
From the year 2016-2018, AB de Villiers showed his full performance not only in batting but also as a captain.
In subsequent matches as a captain, the South African team performed very well in many games against India and the Australian team. As AB de Villiers had some health problems, the role of captain shifted to Faf du Plessis.
On the end of May 2018, AB de Villiers announced his retirement from international cricket. Later, he announced that he would be playing the T20 matches for a few years.
Other than the international matches, his playing skill in domestic games also very well. Some of the IPL teams AB de Villiers played are Royal Challengers Bangalore and Delhi Daredevils. Although Villiers announced the retirement, he said that he plays for Royal Challengers Bangalore in upcoming seasons.
Other than IPL, AB de Villiers also played in Pakistan Super League, Mzansi Super League, and Bangladesh Premier League.
